For those of us who run a website, understanding the way search engines work is critical to the success of a site. Even the most novice webmaster has probably heard of Google's PageRank algorithm, but there are very few people on the planet who actually understand it (apart from Google's own employees, that is).

One of the best resources I've found describing the PageRank algorithm is that from eFactory. It is a great tutorial, and from what I can see on the net, it's a well respected one too.
