The death of al-Zarqawi

Submitted by Adam King on 13 June, 2006 - 00:12.

Is it just me, or is it really rather disturbing that images of al-Zarqawi's corpse are splattered all over the British media?

I know that I, at least, was brought up to regard life with a certain amount of respect. Most people in British media coverage, regardless of how bad they are, warrant at least a decent custody photo like the serial murderer Shipman. Why is it that we are suddenly subjected to looking at a dead man's death mask every day on the tube to work?

Obviously, someone has been spinning their political line again. We are meant to be feeling happy that yet another person is dead, at around about the same time that we start considering memorials for our own victims of this war.

Why is it that life these days is worth so little and when was it that this blatant glamorisation of death become acceptable?
