You are now banned from cooing over babies

How far do we go to protect human rights? Some would say "all the way". At least, they would in a certain West Yorkshire hospital (source).

Most would agree with their statement "Every patient has the right to privacy and dignity, and we say that includes tiny babies as well". However, I'd bet that most people would be suprised to know that they mean to ban hospital visitors, mothers, friends and family from cooing at newborn children. People are faced with a promotional campaign of posters showing a doll in a cot with the slogan "What makes you think I want to be looked at?".

An even better quote:

"Debbie Lawson, neo-natal manager at the hospital's special care baby unit, said: 'Cooing should be a thing of the past because these are little people with the same rights as you or me.'"

Or maybe:

"Cooing should be a thing of the past because these are little people".

Personally, I find it hard to decide what's worse about this story. Is it that political correctness has gone even further down the path to absurdity? Is it that this bizare concept was dreamt up by those in charge of a hospital ward; people we're meant to trust with our lives. Or is it that the concept wasn't shot down at the time of first conception?

What's next? Perhaps we'll all be issued with blinkers and told not to look at anyone at all, just in case they might object to being seen after a rough night on the town? To be honest, I don't even want to think about it.
